Pine View Dairy
Feb 13, 2017
Lucy, the littles and I just finished lunch after spending the day at the Lititz Spring’s Park and Lucy promised me she would take me for ice cream.
We walked to one of my favorite ice cream spots only to find it’s closed on weekdays in the winter. Plan B. We would head 30 minutes across town to one of my favorite little dairies in Lancaster – Pine View Dairy. It was soon time to pick up Max from school and he is my ice cream connoisseur partner so our plan worked out perfectly!
We got to the dairy, grabbed some tasty ice cream (after much deliberation of which flavors to choose) and swung around the side of the store just in time to see the cows being milked. If you go during milking times, you will not be disappointed. Talk about dessert with a view. We could reach out and pet the cows as they waited in the parlor. Venture to the other side of the dairy and you can pet the calves. The kids loved it.
The store has over 20 flavors of homemade ice cream, fresh waffle cones, fresh-squeezed OJ, farm-fresh milk (white and flavored) and an attached small market with local breads, candies, coffee and meats.
I had the featured flavor - triple dark chocolate. It was flavorful, creamy and delicious. The boys had strawberry and black raspberry, which I'm assuming they enjoyed because they ate it in about 34 seconds and snuck some spoons from Bea’s dish. Max said that their cookie dough was "pretty good" which I'm taking as a shining review from a 10-year-old boy. What did impress him were the plentiful chunks of dough throughout the dish. No matter your age, the size of cookie dough chunks in ice cream is extremely important.
My only regret is that I didn't grab some of their mocha milk to take home with me. I guess Lucy will just have to take us back.
